Data Science Fellows

Junior- and senior-level undergraduates interested in applying their existing data science skills in collaboration with a faculty member to support the development of teaching and learning materials can apply to enroll in DATA 1150 (Fall semester) and serve as a Data Science Fellow.

Data Science Fellows logoThis experience will support Data Science Fellows working with faculty partners to enhance data science curricula at Brown. Data Science Fellows provide resources to faculty, who themselves face the expanding and changing array of data science tools, knowledge, and approaches. Serving as a Data Science Fellow increases the metacognitive capacity of the undergraduate, enhancing data science skills and domain knowledge, but perhaps more importantly, further developing communication, leadership, and teamwork capacities.

Junior- and senior-level undergraduate students interested in enrolling in DATA 1150 will need to complete an application form prior to Fall pre-registration, describing their interest in becoming a Data Science Fellow and their experience with data science. While Data Science Fellows can come from any concentration, they should have some experience or expressed aptitude (formal or informal) in one of the following areas: programming, statistics/applied math, or data visualization. Data Fluency Certificate students must have completed DATA 0200.

Data Science Fellows will work up to 10 hours a week and receive a stipend of $2,700 for their work with faculty (the stipend will be paid in the Fall and Spring semester upon completion of project milestones). Any questions about the Data Science Fellows course should be sent to Linda Clark at Linda_Clark@Brown.edu.
