Look Closer 1: An Introduction to Object-Based Teaching
Are you interested in incorporating art, design, or primary sources into your teaching? This in-person workshop will provide an introduction to object-based teaching and how to intentionally tie objects and primary sources to your learning goals. We welcome instructors and teaching staff from all disciplines to think through engaging your students with objects. Facilitated by Dr. Sara Misgen, Sheridan Center Director, this workshop will be held in the Sheridan Center from 12-1:15 PM on September 25th, 2024.
This is the first workshop in the Look Closer workshop series, a collaboration among the Sheridan Center, Brown University Library, and the RISD Museum. It serves as a foundation for the later workshops at the RISD Museum and the Hay Library. Attendance at this workshop is a requirement for subsequent workshops in the series. Look Closer 2: Intentional Instruction with Art & Design
This workshop will take place on October 3rd, 2024 from 6-7:15 pm. Held at the RISD museum, this workshop focuses on strategies for intentionally incorporating art and design into your courses and teaching in a museum space. Building on discussions from the first workshop in the series, this session will help instructors learn how to craft an engaging lesson plan and museum based on their course's learning objectives. This workshop will take place on October 30th, 2024 from 5:40-7:00 PM at the John Hay Library. This in-person workshop held at the Hay Library focuses on strategies for intentionally incorporating primary sources and library collections to your courses. Building on discussions from the first workshop in the series, this session will help instructors learn how to craft an engaging lesson plan or assignment and make the most of Brown's library resources.
