Lauren Roussel

Junior Concentrating in Mathematical Physics and Education Studies

Biography

Hello! I’m Lauren Roussel, a current junior double-concentrating in Mathematical Physics and Education Studies with a specialization in Pedagogy. As that combination might suggest, I enjoy exploring ways to improve teaching and learning, especially in Physics and Math spaces. My study of pedagogy is central to my work— I frequently draw on frameworks like Backwards Design, Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT), Team-Based Inquiry Learning (TBIL), and Bloom’s Taxonomy to guide my approach. I developed a strong foundation in these concepts through UNIV 1110 and have continued to deepen and apply knowledge throughout my time as a Fellow.

In addition to Pedagogy, I care deeply about advancing diversity and inclusion in STEM. As a PSF, that most directly manifests through my work as the Lead Fellow on the “Who Is a Brown STEM Student?” project. Beyond my job, I serve as President of Brown’s Association for Women in Mathematics, working to support and uplift underrepresented communities in STEM, outside the classroom, as well. In addition to being a Lead Fellow, I am the Head of Marketing for the Fellows and contribute to the S/NC project through qualitative data analysis and graphic design. Last spring, I had the opportunity to co-present our research and my original slide deck at AAC&U’s CLASS Conference alongside four other PSFs. More recently, I have been collaborating with a Writing Fellow to conduct a “Who Is a Fellow?” study exploring identity across the Brown Learning Collaborative’s three Fellowing programs.

If you’re interested in collaborating on teaching observations/consultations, course development and design, research, or anything else PSF-related, please reach out— I would love to connect!
